Foster information

FOSTERING WITH DEL MAR DOG RESCUE:
Fostering is about providing the love and care a pet needs. As a foster, you are inviting a Del Mar Dog Rescue dog into your home, helping them learn how to be a pet while preparing for their forever home.

SUPPLIES:
At Del Mar Dog Rescue, we aim to make fostering as smooth as possible. We provide an assortment of supplies based on the foster’s needs. Some fosters already have supplies, others purchase them on their own, and some need all the supplies provided. Each situation is great because the dog receives the care they need, no matter the circumstances.

List of Supplies:

  • Dog Crate

  • Dog Bed

  • Collar

  • Leash

  • Harness

  • Dog Food (Kibble)

  • Food/Water Bowls

  • Treats

  • Toys

  • Waste Bags

  • Potty Pads

  • & more (as necessary)

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF A FOSTER:

  • Sending high-quality pictures and videos every three to four days. To help promote your foster pet, we need regular photos, videos, and updates on their personality, progress, and new skills (known as “foster diaries”). This helps potential adopters get to know your foster dog.

  • Posting on your personal social media and tagging Del Mar Dog Rescue is also helpful! While promoting your foster pet publicly is beneficial, it’s not required.

  • Driving your foster dog to necessary veterinary appointments, shot clinics, and adoption events. (Vet appointments and shot clinics are in the 92127 area.) Appointments are scheduled with your availability in mind.

  • Meet & Greets: When a potential adopter expresses interest in meeting a dog, they will have filled out an adoption form at Del Mar Dog Rescue (dmdr.org/adopt) and been considered a viable candidate. Once this is confirmed, a group message will be started so everyone can coordinate the time and place for the meeting.

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
Del Mar Dog Rescue assumes financial responsibility for the necessary care of a dog under its guardianship, provided the expenses are reasonable and not excessive. Out-of-pocket costs may be reimbursed, as long as they are discussed and approved by Robin Hilton (CEO).

Reimbursement methods:
Zelle, Venmo, CashApp, Paypal, & Check.

MEDICAL:
Del Mar Dog Rescue works with Santa Luz Animal Care (SAC), our designated vet for San Diego-based dogs. If a vet-related emergency occurs, contact Robin Hilton immediately at 619-840-2709. We can address many medical needs in-house, so communication is key for quick solutions.

RELOCATION:
If any changes occur that affect your ability or willingness to foster, a 48-hour notice is required to relocate the dog.
